Today, 1st August 2025, marks exactly 46 days remaining before Malawians head to the polls on 16th September 2025.
This countdown heightens the urgency and anticipation as the nation prepares to make one of its most critical decisions in recent history.
The election will determine the future leadership of the country amid a backdrop of economic hardship, political rivalry, and calls for transformational change.
As the campaign season enters its most intense phase, the code of conduct for campaigning takes center stage.
The code of conduct stipulates that all political parties and candidates must publicly affirm the right of every individual to participate in the electoral process.

It emphasizes that everyone has the right, within the limits of the law, to freely and safely engage in campaign activities.
This includes ensuring that all candidates can campaign without fear, harassment, or obstruction.
The environment must be free from violence, intimidation, and gender-based discrimination.
These principles are vital for a credible and peaceful election that reflects the will of the people.
As such, all candidates and supporters are being strongly advised to respect and adhere to the code of conduct during this crucial period.
Respect for democratic values, human rights, and lawful political competition is essential for sustaining Malawi’s democratic gains.
Citizens are also reminded of their role in promoting peace, tolerance, and responsible civic engagement.
With only 46 days to go, the Malawi Electoral Commission, civil society organizations, and international observers are closely monitoring the campaign trail.
They are working to ensure that the political space remains inclusive, secure, and transparent for all.
As we draw closer to polling day, let this countdown not just be a measure of time—but a reminder of the responsibility we all share in shaping the future of Malawi.
