
MWANZA-(MaraviPost)—On Friday, June 24, in the boarder and southern district of Mwanza, stealing of a 50 kilograms bag of Maize has landed a 19 year old-man into six years and eight months of jail term.Mwanza Police Station Spokesperson, Edwin Kaunda told Maravi Post that the court found the accused, Hawadi Thondoya guilty of house breaking and stealing of 50 kg bag of maize.
According to Kaunda, the court heard that the convict on May 11 this year went to Mpima village and broke into the house of Lidiya Chifuka and stole a 50kg bag of maize.
Kaunda said Hawadi committed the offense at noon while the victim- Lidiya was at her vegetable garden that upon coming back from the garden, she was shocked to see the door of her house tampered with.
“When she went inside the house, she discovered that her only bag of maize had gone. Lidiya reported the matter to Mwanza Police. A man hunt was established and finally the convict was arrested on the following day.
“Though Thondoya pleaded not guilty to the charges of housebreaking and theft, the court found him guilty after the state prosecutor Sub/Inspector Jane Juma paraded four witnesses who testified against Hawadi.
“His worship Ran well Mangazi sentenced him to six years and eight months imprisonment with hard labor. The sentences will run consecutively,” explained Kaunda.
Thondoya hails from Kunenekude village Traditional Authority (T.A) Kanduku in Mwanza district.
