
Malawi’s Washington D.C.-based Diaspora on Saturday began commemorating the 53rd Independence celebrations in grand style in a three-tier itinerary. The celebratory date, hosted by the Malawi Washington Association, is Malawians and friends of Malawi.


Kicking off with a debate, microphones were given to members of the community to talk about life in the diaspora. In the evening the MWA organized a dinner dance that drew Malawi’s US envoy, Ambassador Edward Sawerengera, Malawi entrepreneurs who erected displays of various crafts that are marked online; Malawians were also joined by friends of Malawi.
The festivities draw to a climactic with the favorite of the festivities, the barbecue on Sunday.
