MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-In less than 11 hours from now and almost 13 months since the tripartite elections in Malawi, electorates are going again to fresh presidential polls on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 following February 3, 2020′ Constitutional Court (ConCourt) nullification of May 2, 2019 polls.

Addressing the news conference in Blantyre on Sunday, June 21 from the newly established National Tally Center for the Malawi’ Electoral body (MEC) at College of Medicine, the newly appointed chairperson Dr. Chifundo Kachale said all is set for MEC to conduct the election in the manner that will restore the public trust and confidence in the Commission.

The chairperson assured all Malawians that despite having a shortfall of MK10 billion in the election’ budget by Sunday evening, his commission is determined to conduct credible election and that tight security will be offered at all levels to ensure free and fair process.

He further warned Commissioners and all MEC officials in the election that anyone trying to tamper with the election will face the rough of the law in an individual capacity.

Malawi is going to this election with 50%+1 vote put in place for the first time in determining the winner from the First-Pass the polls, previously used.

The centers are scheduled to open at 6 o’clock in the morning and be closed at 6 o’clock in the evening or anytime when the last registered voter on the queue has cast the ballot.

There are three candidates contesting with Tonse Alliance torchbearer Dr. Lazarus Chakwera and the incumbent president Peter Mutharika expected to have a tight race in the election.
