BLANTYRE(MaraviPost)—Malawi netball, which put the country on the world map with the brilliant performance of Malawi Queens, has been dispirited following the withdrawal of sponsorship by Malawi
Telecommunications Limited (MTL) to MTL Queens.

MTL were sponsoring the Queens to the tune of K6 million per season.

According to MTL corporate affairs manager Tina Das, the nine-year old marriage between the Queens and the company has come to an end following the structuring exercise which the company underwent

“Yes we did. You might be aware that we went through restructuring process where we wanted to undergo reforms and things like netball sponsorship had to be were phased out.

“They (Queens) have a letter to that effect and the reasons are contained in that letter. We will cherish the relationship we had with the team and we are proud to have contributed towards putting Malawi
on the map through netball sponsorship,” Das said as quoted by the Nation Newspaper.

Secretary for MTL Queens Christine Sindi could not comment on the development when she was contacted by the local paper.
