Malawi Parliament institutes adhoc committee for new Chikangawa Plane crash inquiry

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Speaker of Parliament Sameer Suleman has announced the formation of an adhoc Committee to conduct a fresh inquiry into the Chikangawa Plane Crash that occurred on 10th June, 2024, claiming the lives of former Vice President, Dr Saulos Klaus Chilima, and eight others.

The adhoc Committee comprises 12 members, representing various political parties, including DPP, MCP, UTM, PP, UDF, and Independents.

The members are Gilbert Khonyongwa, Chipalamoto Nkhwazi, Dr. James Mpunga, Dumisani Lindani, Joshua Malango, Jiverson Kadzipatike, Felix Njawala, Noah Chimpeni, Ishmael Rizziq Mkumba, Noel Mkubwi, Bengo Moses and Walter Nyamilandu.

Speaker Suleman informed the House that his office had received the list of proposed names in line with the agreed ratio.

He also requested the Leadership of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) to nominate a new member to replace one of their members on the list.

The Committee is expected to complete its work within 90 days from the date of their first meeting and report back to the House during its next meeting in August.
