Malawi Police in Nkhatabay on 17th June, 2015 arrested Nelson Mkandawire aged 20 from Kondamzimu village of T/A Kabunduli in Nkhatabay district and Jacob Nyirenda aged 21 from Vimaso village of T/A Kabunduli in Nkhatabay district for being found in possession of cannabis sativa.
According to the police reports the information that led to the arrest of the other two was provided to them by Nelson Sekani Chirwa who was found with 88 cobs of cannabis sativa. Police found Nelson Mkandawire with 18 bags of cannabis and each bag weighed 35kgs and the second suspect Jacob Nyirenda was found with 6 bags of cannabis, each bag weighing 37.6kgs.
The two will appear in court soon to answer the charge of found in possession of cannabis sativa” contrary to regulation 4(a) as read with section 19(1) of dangerous drugs act
