Malawi Police Inspector General George Kainja added to a list of fraudulent PhD holders

Malawi Police IG ‘Dr’. George Kainja

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)—As the number of fraudulent PhD holders is increasing in the country, it has been revealed that the new Inspector General (IG) of Police ‘Dr.’ George Hadrian Kainja also obtained his doctoral degree from a non-existent university, Colombia Commonwealth University.

According to information sourced on the internet, the National Council for Higher Education withdrew its accreditation from the Colombia Commonwealth University after the council found out that the institution was not meeting minimum standards.

While Kainja is reported to have obtained his doctoral degree in 2011, the council withdrew its accreditation in 2017.

A letter addressed to the university’s president, in possession of the MaraviPost, states that the 16th Council meeting held on March 24 2017 made the decision not to accredit the institution.

“The Council further observed that your university does not meet minimum standards set to ensure satisfactory teaching and learning environment. The design and the mode of delivery of your programmes require reviewing to ensure comparability with similar programmes, nationally and internationally,” reads the letter dated April 7 2017.

It adds: “In view of the above, the Council is in the process of withdrawing the registration of your university in conformity with provision of Nche Act.”

Last year it was also discovered that former minister in the Peter Mutharika administration, Ben Phiri, obtained his doctoral degree fraudulently following his failure to mention a university that awarded him the highest academic qualification.

The leader of opposition Kondwani Naknhumwa is also reportedly to have used Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) of a relative.

Professor of law at the University of Cape Town, Danwood Chirwa, says it is very unfortunate that Malawi has a fraudster manning the national security agency.

“As we name and shame fraudulent PhD holders, let us add the name of one George Kainja to the list. He claims to have a PhD from a non-existent Colombia Commonwealth University.

“It’s most likely one of those counterfeit universities Gadama creates and discontinues at his whim. How does a country have an Inspector General of Police who is a fraud? Get rid of this fraudster and install a credible policeman to lead the police force,” wrote Chirwa on social media.

Chirwa was a fierce critic of the Peter Mutharika administration and seems to be the only activist who is critical of the new government under the leadership of Lazarus Chakwera while other activists and law experts have recoiled.

The vocal Chancellor College political scientists and lawyers have been on hibernation since the former ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) was dislodged from the country’s driving seat yet the current government has made a series of blunders ranging from questionable appointments and breach of law.

  1. Should we really conclude that a university which operated before NCHE became operational operated illegally? Is it not possible for NCHE to withdraw accreditation from a previously accredited university if it fails to maintain minimum standards? Is it possible for NCHE to withdraw accreditation of a university that has never been accredited before? What is going to happen to qualifications which universities awarded before NCHE came into being? The author may wish to advise.

  2. It is a shame that within the first month of its being at the helm of government, the much taunted Alliance has displayed its total disregard of the constitution that governs the land and yet in the recent past we saw and heard the numerous self-imposed political analysts coming out barking all their nonsense.

From the time this fake, fraudster IG was unholy appointed by Chakwera, one could tell that he was going to be a joke of the decade. Most of his decisions have been questionable. He goes about arresting people before investigating, locking up mere suspects beyond the stipulated period, selective arrests etc. All that smells of the MCP you and me was forced down our throats for well over 3 decades. As rightly put, how do you have a cheat, fraudster, crook, undignified cartoon head the Police Service just because he happens to come from the same region as the President and all those noise makers have all of a sudden retracted into their cocoons? As things are now, there are very few career oriented persons in the police force. This rubbish of an IG needs getting back to where he belongs.
