ZOMBA-(MaraviPost)-The Magistrate’s Court in Zomba has denied to grant bail to Senior Chief Malemia of Zomba District, who is accused of engaging in sexual relations with a 16 year old girl and forcing her to terminate a pregnancy.
According to state prosecutor Josephine Chigawa, the State has lined up eight witnesses in the case.
On Tuesday, the court heard testimony from the father of the alleged victim.
In delivering the ruling, presiding magistrate Elijah Daniels said the decision to deny bail was made to protect the witnesses and ensure the case proceeds without delays.
Lawyer Patrick Henry Debwe of Chimowa and Associates Law Consultants, representing the chief, said they respect the court’s ruling.
The case continues today Wednesday at 10:30.
