BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)—Minister of Sports Ulemu Msungama has categorically refuted allegations that he went to India to undergo hair transplant as a remedy for baldness and that the government paid the bills.
Msungama told media yesterday that he did not have any hair transplant in India as being speculated on social media.
Msungama said while serving as member of parliament he was playing soccer and sustained knee injury in the year 2019.
Maravi Post understands that Members of Parliament periodically hold social football matches and on 30th August 2019, according to Msungama, there was such social soccer game at the State House soccer premises in Lilongwe.
According to Msungama, it was during the said game when he sustained a leg injury around the knee region.
He was immediately taken to Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) where he was given painkiller prescription.
Msungama told the journalists that his problem persisted such that he later visited African Bible College (ABC) hospital in Lilongwe where he was attended to by Dr. Maina, a specialist doctor from Beit Cure hospital in Blantyre and was a visiting specialist at ABC hospital.
After assessing his problem, Dr. Maina referred the case to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) in Blantyre for scanning.
When he went to QECH, the scanning was done and the Doctor eventually recommended that he should seek treatment from either India or South Africa.
As a Member of Parliament then, Msungama was on a MASM VIP Medical Scheme but after his appointment as cabinet minister the issue was transferred to Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) as per protocol.
Msungama said the ministry only paid for his air ticket and lodging while the medical bills were squared by MASM.
On the picture showing his head bandaged around, Msungama said he had to take the chance while in India to undergo further surgeries, and in exhibit, the Minister showed the stitches of the operation on the said head area thereby dismissing allegations that he did hair transplant.
He even demonstrated to journalists the way he uses hair fibre for his bald not to be seen.
He also exposed his bald after removing the hair fibre.
