BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi has made a remarkable turnaround in the mobile data landscape, ranking as the number one country in Africa with the cheapest mobile data.
This achievement is attributed to several key reforms implemented by the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA).
According to Daud Suleman, Director General of MACRA, dedicated staff and proactive industry engagement have driven down data costs.
Malawi’s mobile data plans are now among the most affordable on the continent.
Some of the plans available include 1 GB for 7 days at $9-$26.96, 3 GB for 7 days at $21.60, 5 GB for 15 days at $27.60, and 10 GB for 30 days at $42-$72.
There are also unlimited data plans available for 1-30 days, with prices starting from $12 per day.
The country also offers various eSIM plans, including Yesim, AloSIM, Toosim, and Airalo.
The plans offer fast and reliable mobile data with instant activation, prepaid data, and data plans with validity up to 180 days.
The reduction in mobile data costs is expected to have a positive impact on Malawi’s economy and society. With more affordable internet access, individuals can stay connected, access information, and take advantage of online opportunities.
