Chakwera on 100 days rule

MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi President, Dr Lazarus Chakwera has assured all Malawians that the country has started to move towards a right direction in a bid to build a new Malawi.

Chakwera told the nation that the 100 days were a learning curve as a foundation for outstanding governance.

Speaking on Monday, October 5, 2020 during a presentation of key deliverables in his 100 days of office, President Chakwera said for the past six years Malawi has been moving towards wrong direction and was at the verge of wrecking like a ship because of poor and myopic governance.

In his address, Chakwera stated that in under 100 days the Tonse Alliance government has achieved over 35 key deliverables, chief among being: establishment of national climate change fund, securing urban social cash transfer for about 135, 000 households, lobbying development partners like International Monetary Fund (IMF) to rescue Malawi as the country is sailing through economic troubled water, establishment of the Ministry of Civic Education and National Unity on the account of unifying all Malawians from all corners of the nation.

He also said his administration decided to reinstate Army Commander, General Vincent Nundwe, for he was unlawfully forced to retire and has changed Malawi Enterprise Development Fund (MEDEF) to Malawi Economic Empowerment Fund Limited (MEEFL) so as to enable its operations to benefit all Malawians in addition to reviewing Farm Input Subsidy Program in which the 50 kilogram bag of fertilizer will be sold at MK4, 495 to around 4 million households.

Chakwera also disclosed that during the 100 days, the Tonse government has been able to establish 45 million US dollars from African Development Bank (ADB) to cushion the country from the shocks of Covid-19 pandemic.

As to why his administration is not doing enough to put more women in high decision making positions, Chakwera said his government recognises women as equal professionals who can play pivotal roles in developing the nation but in order to walk the talk, all stakeholders should come together to achieve it instead of embarking on blame game.

President Chakwera further stressed that the current administration will do everything possible to fulfill all the promises the Tonse Alliance led government made during the campaign period; only that Malawians ought to exercise patience as all the promises cannot be achieved overnight.
