LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The country’s leading smartphone provider Airtel Malawi has managed to open over 1,000 of Airtel Money branches with promises to reach more remote areas.

The company assures the nation of expanding the provision of improved mobile money services through Airtel money.

Airtel money Director Brighton Banda told the media on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 during Lilongwe Bwandilo’s Airtel Money branch that the company’s goal is to reach more Malawians with its mobile money services.

Banda said that as part of the expansion drive, Airtel money now accommodates international transactions.

“Airtel Money’s expansion drive continues to empower local communities to not only in sending and receiving money instantly, but to also be financially resilient by helping individuals start and grow businesses.

“We have been expanding our branch network to reach more people in rural communities and empower more Malawians to send and receive money from wherever they are”, Banda said.

He added, “Apart from enabling customers to manage their money directly from their mobile phones, we have further enhanced the Airtel Money platform which now supports international money transfers to and from Malawi using additional partners that have been on-boarded over recent years.

“Apart from our 1,000 plus branches nationwide, we have also grown our agent network to over 70,000 agents, many of whom are first-time business owners. These agents have the opportunity of running the mobile money agent service alongside their businesses”.

Susan Tsonga, an Airtel money branch owner at Bwandilo in Lilongwe said she is happy to be among the 1000 Airtel money branches across Malawi.

Tsonga said being an Airtel money branch is a big business opportunity that has enabled her to employ a few people.

“As a branch we help Airtel money agents to load money in their accounts, we help individuals send and receive money and provide other Airtel related services. I a proud being one of Airtel Money’s branches as this provides an opportunity for me to employ some few individuals who help me run this branch”, she said.

Airtel Malawi has over five million customers on its network.

Its becoming the largest telecommunications service provider in Malawi.
