CHIKWAWA-(MaraviPost)-The hard core defiler Leonard Kanyama, who is accused of defiling a 11 year old girl in Chikwawa living her in a pool of blood, is expected to know his fate on Friday, January 29, 2021.

The clip of the victim who was defiled on October 20,2020 went viral on social media soon after the incident occurred.

The First Grade Magistrate court inn Chikwawa, has set the judgement after both the state and the defense closed their case on Friday afternoon, hours after Kanyama was found with a case to answer on the same day.

Speaking with Maravi Post after the adjournment of the case, Eunice Ndingo, who is the state lead prosecutor in the case, said the state is impressed with the testimony of its witnesses and said it is optimistic that will manage to make its final submission by January 8, 2021 as ordered by the court.

“The testimony from our witnesses is enough and as start, we are impressed by it. What remains now, is that we make our final submission and make them available to court by January 8, 2020 as per court’s order,” she said.

The state says will make an application that the sentencing be done at the Chief Resident Magistrate court should the presiding magistrate, Gladson Chilundu to convict him.

“We are in a drive of arresting the increased cases of rape and defilement so there is a need that convicts of such cases, get sentences which may suit their crime. It’s our plan as a state to apply to have the sentence be done at the CRM  she the 29th January judgement, convicts him,” said Ndingo

The State is co-prosecuting the matter with Women Lawyers Association while the accused is being represented by lawyers from the Legal Aid Bureau.
