Malawi’s Luwinga Academy finish fifth at CAF U-17 girls tournament in Zimbabwe

HARARE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi’s Luwinga Academy ended their CAF U-17 Girls Integrated Football Tournament campaign in Zimbabwe with a fifth-place finish, wrapping up the competition on a high note.

The Malawian side impressed in their final match after recording a convincing 3–0 victory over Refilwe FC.

The win highlighted the team’s steady improvement and strong teamwork as they faced competitive opposition from across the region.

Luwinga Academy showed resilience throughout the tournament, using each match as an opportunity to grow and gain valuable experience.

Speaking after the tournament, head coach Chisomo Nkhoma said the competition played a key role in developing his young players.

NKhoma explained that facing different teams and playing styles helped sharpen the players’ skills and boosted their confidence.

Nkhoma added that the exposure to international football at such a young age is crucial for long term player development.

The coach also praised the discipline and determination shown by the girls both on and off the pitch.

Luwinga Academy’s participation reflects Malawi’s growing focus on nurturing girls’ football at youth level.

The fifth place finish, combined with a strong closing performance, offers encouragement as the team looks ahead to future tournaments.
