BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-In its quest to meet Corporate Social Responsibility (CRS) one of the country’s fast growing insurance companies Reunion Insurance Limited on Thursday, July 16, 2020 donated donated MK2 million to Mlambe Mission Hospital to assist in its fight against Covid-19.
Speaking after presented dummy cheque at Mlambe Hospital in Blantyre the Reunion Insurance Company Limited’s Business Development Manager, Miller John Joshua said the company is aware that the spread of corona virus in Malawi is at an alarming rate making it difficult for businesses to operate
Jushua observed that as much everyone has been affected by the pandemic but hospitals’ workers including nurses, doctors, clinicians, midwives and other hospital support staff are at a major risk hence the support.
“They are by their profession champions of assisting those affected by the deadly corona virus globally; in the process; putting their lives, lives of their families and close relations at risk.
“Reunion Insurance is just fulfilling its Corporate Social Responsibility as enshrined in its business model by donating to Mlambe Hospital,” says Joshua.
He added, “The figures are very scary. The spread of the corona virus can be reduced and eradicated amongst front-line health workers if proper protective wears are provided and all preventive measures are followed not only by nurses and doctors but all Malawians”.
In her remarks, Mlambe Hospital Principal Sister Clotilda Makweya lauded the company for the timely support and asked other organizations to emulate Reunion Insurance’s gesture.
Sr. Makweya stated that the hospital is in dare need of Protective, Preventive and Equipment (PPE’s) and other materials in order to offer their best service in line with their mission which “is the serve the less privileged people”
She therefore appealed to Malawians to mask up always, watch hands regularly, observe social distance and be in isolation whenever they have tested positive to Covid -19.
As of July 16, 2020, Malawi had 2716 Covid-19 cases with 51 deaths.
On Wednesday, Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera called Malawians and religious leaders to join him for three days of prayer and fasting to ask God Almighty to heal our land.
Scores of Malawians are participating in these prayers until Saturday, July 18, 2020.
