The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Regional chairs have warned President the Revered Lazarus Chakwera against his silence on the perceived continued divisions and individual attacks of party members   under his governance.

This comes in the wake of the parties’ Spokesperson Jessie Kabwira comment made in a ZBS Radio news item on August 9 in which she refuted that there are no divisions in the party, contrary, to views of MCP’ regional and district chairpersons.

But Former Regional Chairperson for MCP Denis Nathumba, during a press briefing recently reiterated that the statement issued on radios and in newspapers by MCP administrations condemning some party critics are not justified as the party is failing to follow constitutional procedures in its governance in as far as appointing members is concerned.

Nathumba said: “People whom we represent across the country seek clarification and intervention on why the party is continuing to firing some leaders substituting them with unconstitutional appointment, and also failing to resolve conflicts and matters of national importance within the party”

“As members of MCP party we are afraid the misunderstandings will negatively affect the party come General Elections in 2019”

He therefore, appealed to President Lazarus Chakwera to dissolve new MCP National Executive Committee (NEC) saying that it has been established unconstitutionally hence he should call for emergency convention.

District Chairman for the party in Chikhwawa Keviasi Amosi Chanza during briefing said MCP now is more like regional party unlike during late Hastings Kamuzu Banda when it was a national party.

He therefore, advised President Lazarus Chakwera to engage what he call his opponents in dialogue rather that attacking them through firing them in different position and also demanded him to respond to issues raised in the latters presented to him few months ago.

“We would like to emphasize the fact that the President should concentrate on creating avenues for dialogue rather what is happening now. The option for dialogue is the best choice in any democratic dispensation.  As members and people who wish luck for the party our position is that the affairs of MCP have been misdirected”, he said

Long time saving member Chatinkha Chidzanja Khoma also said the sustainable solution to the crisis in the party is to call for convention.

She said: “The beating and all manner of torture and inhuman treatment that other innocent MCP members have suffered and continued to suffer at the hands of Chakwera’s administration the solution is convention”
