HUNDREDS of people from Machinga Likwenu Constituency will spend the current winter season wrapped up in warm blankets following the distribution of blankets by the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Bright Msaka SC.
The Minister, who is also Member of Parliament for the constituency and Vice-President of the governing Democratic Progressive Party in the Eastern Region, extended the hand of benevolence on Saturday, mostly to senior citizens, orphaned children and those living with disabilities.
Addressing the beneficiaries, first at his village home at Mpotola in Chinguni Ward and later in Lisanjala Ward, the minister said he decided to offer a helping hand to relieve people of the suffering that winter season brings.
“There are many people that can’t afford to cover themselves from the cold in this season, hence I felt duty bound to assist them,” Msaka said.

Msaka said he is aware that there are many others that need support during this time of the year. To ensure that they also benefit, he said that a similar exercise will be conducted in the constituency in the near future.
In his remarks, Traditional Authority Mkula commended the legislator for the kind gesture, especially that this support is coming at a time when it is extremely cold.
“My only plea is that this kind of support should be extended to most of those that are in need,” said the chief.
