BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Leader of Opposition in Parliament and the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Vice President for Southern Region Kondwani Nankhumwa has flexed his muscles by firing Simon Vuwa Kaunda as the party’s chief whip in the National Assembly.

In a notice letter addressed to the Speaker of the House Catherine Gotani Hara which Maravi Post has its authenticity, Nankhumwa has since then appointed a Member of Parliament (MP) for Nkhata Bay North-West Constituency Julius Chione Mwase to take over from Kaunda.

Mwase has been Deputized by Victoria Kingston of Mangochi Central who replaces Lonnie Chijere Chirwa.

This comes barely few days after the house announced it will start its Sixth meeting of the 49th Session from Monday July 18 to Friday August 12, 2022.

DPP has been rocked in divisions as the party plans to go to the convention to elect a new leader.

Nankhumwa is one of the party’s leadership role candidates who is said to have not been operating under instructions from the current leader and former President Peter Mutharika.

He owns his own camp which accuses Mutharika of favouring another leadership candidate Dalitso Kabambe to lead the party.
