MaraviPost iReport: Peoples Party Acting president and Member of Parliament for Salima South Constituency Uladi Mussa has vowed to never legalize same sex marriage if his party get into power in 2019.

Mussa said this during a broadcast of a program on CAN TV called Malawi today. He said being a devote Muslim, there is no way he can allow people of the same gender get into marriage.

When asked inside the program if PP administration would consider decriminalize same sex marriage and respect minority rights, Mussa said Malawi is a religious country, “Muslim says no and even Christianity says no, I don’t think there is any member of clergy who can grace a wedding of people of same sex, how will they produce? I can’t legalise” He said.

Mussa also faulted government’s action of suspending the laws criminalizing same sex marriage describing it as illegal. “The government has no power to suspend any act in the country, that’s the responsibility of the National assembly, they are going out of bounds.  It only shows that the current administration is promoting lawlessness in this country” He said.

The government suspended the laws that criminalize people involved in same sex marriages late last year, bowing to international pressure after the arrest of two area 25 residents, Cuthbert Kulemera 19 and a 33 year old Kelvin Gonani who were suspected of being gays.
