Poor leadership from FAM killing football in Malawi

Lilongwe April 6, 2016 : Poor Management at the helm of FAM has resulted in Malawi National Football Team, the Flames not winning any trophies in a very long time..

The football administrators seem like they don’t know what to do and they are treating football as a social sport to keep the body fit.

Just like adding salt on the wound, the current on-going misunderstanding between the Super League of Malawi (SULOM) and Dedza young soccer that are fighting in the court over the 16th team to join the super league.

Dedza young soccer says they are eligible to be in the super league as they have more points than the likes of fisd wizards and airborne rangers. Dedza may have a point to prove as they have finished on top of those two other teams and Sulom could have seen this before coming.

As the case is still on we are not even sure of what will happen next, there is another issue between Nyasa big bullets and Jaffali Chande which is also connecting to the Sulom as the player and Sulom say they don’t have contract papers between the player and the team while bullets claims to have contract papers and represented them to the football association of Malawi. (FAM)

Millions of questions many people may be asking are where was Sulom when Jaffali Chande was going to big bullets, as we are aware all the transfers are channelled through Sulom, should we say that they were not aware of the issue.

The people’s team Spokesperson Kevin Moyo said player only remains with only 5months but contrary to his statement, some Bullets officials claim that his contract will run up to 2017, now the question is? Did Mr Moyo check before coming out to release the player?

With the way things are going, football is losing its touch in the country it just shows that we are going backwards.

Another case that is showing the low standards of football recently our footballers used to sign for South African premier league teams like Keizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates but now they have now flooded to Mozambican teams which on paper the league of that side is not too far with the Malawian league.

Let’s not beat the bush here our football administrators have killed football standards in the country and if they cannot come out and pave way for others to try change things then its better we should try another sport rather than football as they have failed.

Our national team performance has not left much to be desired as it just keeps on losing and frequent changing coaches and player’s has not even helped either. It clearly shows that we don’t have plans for Flames to do better.

FAM and SULOM must sit down and find the solutions to these problems and make necessary changes to the football system in the country, the sooner the better.
