“An antelope cannot drink water when a hunting dog is chasing it”, the adage goes. And it is a stupid dog that barks at an elephant.
The coming in of Former Reserve Bank Governor Dalitso Kabambe into frontline politics has confused many people who are even failing to sleep.
Truth be told, Dalitso Kabambe is the hottest cake every one would want to taste. He is a man who has become a darling to many within the political circle.
Surprisingly, war has been waged on this innocent man with very innovative ideas as a result of his ambitions to contest as the Presidential Candidate for Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) if successful at the upcoming DPP Convention.
He has been accused of unfounded offenses ranging from his salary at the Reserve Bank to now the release of MK6.2 billion Covid funds in 2020.
It is so amusing to see how people are made to believe that the MK6.2 billion was released by Dalitso Kabambe alone with an aim of technically providing campaign funding to DPP. This is uncivilized, retrogressive and simplistic thinking. In the first place, RBM operates on established Laws.
There is no way an individual can monopolize and manipulate decision making at an institution like Reserve Bank.
There is a mandated Board that overseas the day to day operations of the Central Bank.
It is therefore mere political and cheap propaganda to anticipate that Dalitso Kabambe be individually investigated for releasing the MK6.2 billion as a Governor.
This is the way to divert on the attention of Malawians who are so eager to know as to how this amount of money was spent.
We all know that the MK6.2 billion was released specifically for purposes of fighting the effects and threat of Covid 19.
Unfortunately this money ended up in the hands of Politicians barely a few months after the Fresh Presidential Elections of June 23, 2020.
Secondly, it is said that the money in question was never deposited into Dalitso Kabambe’s account as many are alleging, the money was rather sent into Dodma Account.
Some arguments on the same are those where others are saying why did RBM release such huge amount of money as opposed to other previous years?
Well, RBM made a profit of MK57 billion and due to the Covid pandemic, under its Cooperate Social Responsibility, the MK6.2 billion was approved by the Board and deposited into Dodma Account to combat the pandemic.
It is there cheap rhetoric and mere propaganda-to frame that Dalitso Kabambe should be responsible. It is nothing except bad politics aimed at tarnishing someone’s image.
RBM is an institution therefore an individual cannot be crucified on the decision that was made by the Board. Let Kabambe be. He is also entitled to political participation as many others do.
He is the only person giving hope to Malawians at the moment. Any attempt made to investigate him on MK6.2 billion Covid funds release is too trivial and political. In this modern time, people should not be penalized for simply exercising their right to political participation.
Of course the war is both internal and external. Let government concentrate on recovering the money that has been devoured by reckless and insensitive-politicians. Do not try to implicate the innocent Kabambe because he is a threat to your chances of winning an election.
Let those who swindled this money pay back. Let Kabambe concentrate on his new career. We must stop politicizing everything as a country.
Kabambe is what we want now to redeem us from the mess we are in. Give him a chance for we know is able.
