MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-The CCAP Synod of Livingstonia commended the five Constitutional Court Judges for their impartiality, professionalism and autonomy in delivering the volatile presidential elections case judgment.
Speaking in an interview, the Synod’s General Secretary, Reverend Levi Nyondo, said in the face of the pressure from all corners of the society, the five judges have displayed the highest level of wit in the trial of the most unprecedented case; a clear pointer to the maturity of Malawi’s democracy.
Reverend Nyondo further asked the incumbent President Peter Muthalika and the reinstated Vice President, Dr. Saulos Chilima to bury the hatchet and work cordially for the common man on the street.
Echoing the sentiments of Reverend Nyondo was the Executive Director for Church and Society Programme under the Synod, Moses Mkandawire, who said it is high time political leaders exercised peace which they preach in their political missives.
In a statement, Mkandawire called upon all political players to unite and respect the judgment and the rule of law for Malawi is a law abiding nation.
On Monday, February 3, 2020, the Constitutional Court declared that there be fresh presidential elections in the 150 days to come, following the annulment of the May 21, 2019 presidential polls by the five judges of the said court.
