NAIROBI-(MaraviPost)-The Kenyan Police arrested two women transporting bags of marijuana after a dramatic chase by the police along the Nakuru-Nyahururu-Nyeri-Murang’a highway.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed the news of the arrest in a statement on Tuesday, March 8.

DCI said prior to their arrest, the duo had engaged Transnational & Organized Crimes (TOCU) detectives in a high-octane highway race, with the lady behind the steering exhibiting all signs of a Formula 1 finalist.

According to DCI, the duo was ferrying marijuana from Busia to Nairobi on Monday evening, March 7, 2022.

They evaded police roadblocks on the highway before detectives chased their vehicle and intercepted them.

They were apprehended in Saba Saba, Murang’a County after the dramatic police chase along the Nakuru- Nyahururu- Nyeri- Murang’a highway, Citizen Digital reported.

The duo has since been transferred to the directorate’s headquarters in Nairobi for processing over drug trafficking as they await arraignment on Tuesday.

Cases of drug trafficking are on the rise in Kenya.

Last year, authorities recorded cases involving drug trafficking estimated to be worth more than Sh1.6 billion pending.

This has become a public health problem as many users of drugs are reportedly contracting AIDS or hepatitis C due to a lack of precautions when intoxicated.
