LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-President Lazarus Chakwera is now under pressure for rushing withdrawing Vice President Saulos Chilima’s portfolios based on Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Martha Chizuma’s substandard report.
This comes as 90 days have elapsed without ACB taking Chilima to court on alleged corruption with Indian businessman.
In an interview with Maravi Post on Monday, Political Analyst, George Phiri said It would be imperative if the Chakwera had advised the ACB to finalize the report before any action.
Phiri observes that Chakwera’s decision stopping Chilima from working was viewed as political intervention.
“I agree with the ACB’s Spokesperson on the President’s action. The President’s himself recognized the report as substandard. It was a surprise for everyone that the President swiftly made serious decisions based on the report including detracting the jobs of the VP without established cases,” said Phiri.
Phiri said many Malawians considered it as Chakwera ‘s deliberate political move to destabilize political career of the innocent VP.
“:Until now it’s difficult to justify the reason for detracting the jobs of the VP; either by the ACB or by the President, the VP has no case to answer yet from corruption scandal .
ACB publicist, Egrita Mdala told Zodiak on Sunday that the report which was submitted to Chakwera was incomplete saying bureau is to embark further investigations.
Leader of Opposition, Kondwani Nankhumwa decline to comment on the matter.
“I would reserve my comment for now on this issue,” said Nankhumwa.
Malawians are yet to see how Chakwera will handle the political incrimination against Chilima.
