NEW YORK-(MaraviPost)-John Cena has officially retired from in-ring competition after a 23-year career in WWE, following a submission loss to Gunther on Saturday night at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
The 17-time World Champion faced Gunther in his final bout, suffering a submission defeat his first in 21 years and only the fourth submission loss of his WWE career.
Following the match, the entire WWE locker room came out to honor Cena.
World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk and Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes entered the ring and handed Cena their championship belts, allowing him to wear them one final time.
In an emotional moment, Cena removed his shoes and sweatbands, leaving them in the center of the ring before taking his bows and walking away.
As he made his way up the entrance ramp, Cena high-fived fans and took one final bow before addressing the camera.
“It’s been a pleasure serving you all these years. Thank you,” Cena said, before exiting the arena for the final time.
A Grand Slam Champion, Cena’s retirement tour in 2025 was marked by several iconic moments, including a shocking heel turn at Elimination Chamber in March, and his historic 17th World Championship victory at WrestleMania 41.
