LUSAKA-(MaraviPost)-A two-year eleven months old girl from Chief Shezongo in Itezhi tezhi District has died after she was pushed into a well by a 15-year-old Grade 10 girl who is her neighbor.
According to Zambia Accurate Information, Southern Province Police Commissioner Paul Achiume says the incident occurred yesterday and has identified the deceased as Christeta Mumbula.
Achiume the Police Commissioner explained that the incident occurred when the deceased in the company of her two sisters went near the well where the Grade 10 girl suspect was fetching water and called the trio.
The Commissioner narrates that the suspect started asking the trio their names of which the young girl failed and was pushed into the well as punishment before the heartless girl locked it (the well) and runaway.
By the time community members were breaking the lead to the well, the poor girl had long died.
She died a terrible death.
Her body was retrieved by the community members and deposited at Itezhi tezhi hospital mortuary while the 15 year old Grade 10 girl has been arrested.
