RUMPHI-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi police in the northern district of Rumphion Thursday arrested 38 Somalis and three Malawians for illegal entry and aiding immigrants into the country respectively.

The development comes barely a month after police also captured 64 illegal immigrants from Ethiopia in the same district.

Northern region police deputy spokesperson Maurice Chapola, confirmed the arrest of the Somalis who were travelling in a 14-seater minibus registration number NS 5174, when they were cornered at South Rukuru Bridge, in the district.

Chapola said the police mounted the road block following a general public tip off that Yamikani Kachigulu aged 29, who hails from Chinjere village in Nkhatabay district, was driving the immigrants.

“The driver and the other two Malawians, Shadrek Mwale 22, and Vincent Msukwa, have been charged with aiding and abetting illegal immigrants into the country,” Chapola said.

The other two suspects Mwale and Msukwa hail from Traditional Authorities (T.As) Mazengera and Kilipula in Lilongwe and Karonga districts respectively.
