….Gangata coaxed clergymen with money….
LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The CCAP Nkhoma Synod leadership has disowned visiting clergymen to former President Peter Mutharika’s Page House in Mangochi arguing that the trip was arranged individually.
The Synod is therefore is warning all Church Ministers not to use the name of the Synod in exercising their individual rights.
In a press statement issued on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 CCAP Nkhoma Synod General Secretary Reverend Vasco Kachipapa observes that only six pastors out of 53 were its members.
Kachipapa warned that Synod leadership is following up on the matter and an appropriate action will be taken accordingly.
“The CCAP Nkhoma Synod leadership is dismayed and categorically refutes, what is circulating in the social media and media houses that 53 Nkhoma Synod Church Ministers went to Page House.
“The truth of the matter is that out of 267 CCAP Nkhoma Synod Church Ministers, only six were part of the delegation. Five are serving in different congregations, one retired and one was dismissed in 2020”, reads the statement in part.
Kachipapa adds, “These people went to Page House, not as Nkhoma Synod, but, as part of a pastoral fraternal they joined in their own right. While they have the right of association, they violated the Synod policy by using the name “CCAP Nkhoma Synod” to advance their political rights.
“Their names are: Rev. Chifunilo Damalankhunda – Kapeta CCAP in Dowa, Rev. Jacob Kadzakumanja – Chibanzi CCAP in Dowa, Rev. Stafford Makuta – Kambulu CCAP in Dowa, Rev. Sydney Phula Banda – Kadziyang’ane CCAP in Mchinji, Rev. Sitiyoni Mtama – Namitete CCAP in Lilongwe, Rev. Waison Chiwaula – Retired, Mr. D.C. Kawanga – was dismissed in 2020”.
Kachipapa warns, “The CCAP Nkhoma Synod leadership warns all Church Ministers not to use the name of the Synod in exercising their individual rights.
“The leadership is following up on the matter and an
appropriate action will be taken accordingly”.
According to church sources Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Central Region Vice president Alfred Gangata coaxed the clergymen with money to visit Page House on Tuesday to score political mileage that he be picked for running mate ahead of September 16 general polls.
CCAP Blantyre Synod also disowned its pastors months ago after visiting the same Page House.
