NTCHEU-(MaraviPost)-President Lazarus Chakwera has emphasized the importance of the Ntcheu-Tsangano Road, describing it as a lifeline for Malawi’s socio-economic development.
The president made the remarks on Wednesday during a whistle-stop tour at Kambilonjo Trading Centre in Dzonzi-Mvai Constituency, Ntcheu.
“Tsangano is a food basket for Ntcheu, Lilongwe, Blantyre, Mzuzu, and the country at large. The Ntcheu-Tsangano Road is the main route that facilitates this production, making it vital for national economic growth,” said Chakwera.
The Malawi leader further noted that with the area’s significant agricultural output, government will support the establishment of factories to promote value addition on crops such as tomatoes, onions, and potatoes.
On his part,Malawi Congress Party (MCP) shadow Member of Parliament (MP) for Dzonzi-Mvai, Mwayi Kamuyambeni, praised the people of Tsangano as hardworking farmers who rely on consistent farming rather than handouts.
In his remarks,Traditional Authority(T/A) Mpando expressed gratitude to the president for ensuring that farmers in his area access affordable agricultural inputs.
He added that local farmers cultivate crops three times a year and commended the National Economic Empowerment Fund (NEEF) for disbursing MK1.1 billion to support farmers in the constituency.
