LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The newly appointed Leader of Opposition in Parliament Dr. George Chaponda, has assured the media of a unified and vibrant opposition in the house.
Chaponda hinted that his office will provide checks and balances on issues affecting Malawians advising them to help in holding authorities accountable.
“Malawians should expect a vibrant opposition as my office will be working together with UDF, AFORD in shaping ideas,” assures Chaponda.
He therefore added that the media also is an important partner in democratic dispensation challenging them to collaborate with his office as they are serving the voiceless Malawians.
“We hope to work together for the good of our people,” reads Chaponda’s writings on the wall after interacting with the media in his office in Lilongwe.
Chaponda said the current opposition leadership is willing to work hand in hand with the media to shape the public opinion and national importance issues.
He therefore urged the media to make follow ups on the cases including of Butcher payment Bridgin project and human rights related issues that of Martha Chizuma arrest, Sylvester Namiwa and Bon Kalindo.
“DPP supporters were hacked with pangas at Mbowe filling station and recently in Mponera AFORD supporters were attacked with gangs suspected to be from MCP but Chakwera government has been silent on all these matters,” complained Chaponda.
He added that Chakwera promised to step down failure to deliver in two years, “where is his promise as there is need of media scrutiny.”
Asked whether he will consider working with the former Opposition leader, Kondwani Nankhumwa, Chaponda said the door is open to everyone as long as they have same goals.
