LILONGWE Maravipost: The leader of the house, Richard Chimwendo Banda, has asked the speaker’s office to plead with him regarding the 105 ruling that was imposed on Salima South East Member Mike Mwawa for disobeying the Second Deputy Speaker’s order yesterday, Monday January 23.

Making the plea in the August House on Tuesday, January 25, Chimwendo said that the office of the speaker should consider the honorable members. The same plea was made by Sammeer Suleiman from Blantyre City South East and was granted.

George Chaponda, the leader of the opposition, has asked Chimwendo to become the presiding officer of the august house because he appears to have greater authority over the decisions of every speaker in the house.

Chaponda said that the speaker’s office has the right to punish a member for their indiscipline, and no one should shield him.

Madalitso Kazombo, the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, responded to the matter and stated that the speaker’s office will provide an answer at a later time.

Kazombo informed the house that he will not allow members to misbehave regardless of their origin, and the standing orders will handle it’s cause.

The Second Deputy Speaker gave two days to Mike Mwawa, a member of Parliament from Salima South East, for making noise and disobeying the speaker’s advice to shut up for the sake of progress in the House.

Recently, the same Salima South East lawmaker was sentenced to 4 days for stopping another government member of Parliament from leaving the august house after being given 105 ruling for misbehaving.
