China hands over $6 million confucius institute to Malawi

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The Chinese Ambassador to Malawi, Lu Xu, has congratulated the Malawian government on the successful completion of a $6 million China-aided Confucius Institute.

Speaking at the official handover ceremony in Lilongwe on Friday, Ambassador Lu Xu described the institute as a symbol of cultural exchange and people-to-people connection between China and Malawi.

Lu Xu highlighted China’s growing support for Malawi’s education sector, citing the provision of concessional loans for the establishment of the Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) in 2013.

She also noted that China continues to offer annual scholarships for Malawian students to pursue higher education in China.

On her part,Minister of Higher Education, Jessie Kabwila, praised the infrastructure as a testament to international support and collaboration.

She emphasized the importance of global partnerships in enhancing Malawi’s education standards and creating new learning opportunities for the youth.

The Confucius Institute is expected to promote cultural exchange and academic cooperation between China and Malawi, further strengthening the two countries’ bilateral relations.
