BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Civil Service United head coach Abbas Makawa has raised concern that the club could lose some of its key players ahead of the 2025/26 football season, a situation he believes may negatively affect the team’s continuity and ambitions.
Makawa said the possibility of player departures has already created uncertainty within the camp as preparations for the new season slowly begin.
He noted that Civil Service United has struggled in recent years to keep a stable squad, with players often leaving in search of better opportunities elsewhere.
According to the coach, retaining the current crop of players would give the team a strong chance to perform better in the upcoming season than it did in the just-ended campaign.
Makawa pointed out that even during the mid season transfer window, the team lost key players, including Blessings Malinda and Moses Banda.
“These departures affect us a lot because we are forced to adjust our plans in the middle of the season,” said Makawa.
He explained that such changes often disrupt team chemistry and consistency, which are vital for long term success.
Despite the challenges, the coach believes the team showed signs of progress during the season and has a solid foundation to build on.
He said the technical panel will use the off season break to sit down and carefully review the team’s overall performance.
The review will focus on identifying areas that need strengthening, including squad depth and goal scoring efficiency.
Civil Service United finished the season in fifth position with 47 points from 30 matches.
The team recorded 13 wins, eight draws and nine losses, scored 39 goals and conceded 21 in the Super League.
