#Cyclone Freddy impact: Death toll at 676, rendering 659,278 destitute

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-About 676 people have been died with 538 missing while leaving 659,278 homeless over Tropical Cyclone Freddy impact.

The cyclone hit Malawi’s southern regions district on March 11, 2023.

Addressing the news conference on Tuesday, March 29, 2023 Department of Disaster and Management Affairs (DoDMA) Commissioner, Charles Kalemba disclosed that 538 people are still missing following the flooding induced by tropical CycloneFreddy in the 10 districts of the southern region.

Kalemba who was giving out final inter-agency assessment disclosed that 143,487 households with 659,278 people have been rendered destitute.

The commission revealed further that 2.3 million people have been left injured and insecure.

Countries, humanitarian organizations, individuals, companies are currently pouring in with relief items towards cyclone survivors
