BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost )-Labour Minister Peter Dimba has called on employers across various sectors to foster a conducive work environment by adhering to labour laws, emphasizing that this contributes significantly to sustainable economic development. .
Speaking at a meeting on promoting decent work and labour compliance at Riverside Hotel in Lilongwe on Monday, Dimba highlighted the ministry’s dedication to upholding labour rights throughout May.
He said the initiative responds to President Lazarus Chakwera’s appeal during the 2025 Labour Day commemoration in Balaka, where he underscored the importance of respecting labour laws often breached by employers.
“Our awareness campaign aims to enhance compliance with labour laws, ensuring workers enjoy safe and healthy working conditions,” said Dimba.
The minister urged employees to seek assistance when their rights are violated.
The Zantchito Skills for Job Programme, in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour, seeks to create a supportive environment for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) while strengthening labour laws to achieve decent jobs and sustainable economic growth.
