MANGOCHI-(MaraviPost)-Primary elections for the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) that was held in Mangochi district ended into violence, Maravi Post has learnt.
Minister of Labour, Youth, Sports and Manpower Development Grace Obama Chiumia who was a presiding offer for Mangochi central constituency primaries had tough time to control the elections where Victoria Kingston and Vincent Makada were competing for parliamentary seat.
During the elections which started very late due to misunderstand of party area’s from the constituency were the two point fingers to each other including district DPP office for allegedly misplacing area committees which the party have.
According to the results Victoria Kingston won with 2,226 and her opponent Vincent Makda got1700 votes.
Speaking with the media after the elections, Chiumia described the primaries as successful although there was disagreement on area committee issues.
Meanwhile Ralph Juma member of parliament for Mangochi Monkey bay has been decreared a winner unopposed after Hophmally Makande withdrawn after complaining of fake area’s.
Additionally primary elections at Mangochi West constituency has been cancelled as incumbent MP Geofry Chiwondo and Mr Paulos quarreled over same fake party area committees.
When asked to comment on the primary elections held in the district and party area issues Secretary general for DPP Grezeder Jeffrey said she is not party spokesperson.
She said she wa just monitoring the elections and receiving complaints from the aspirants candidate for election committee to make final decision on the anomalies.
