LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Impunity at its best. State Residences Director Prince Kapondamgaga in Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera leadership, embroiled in a MK65 million hotel expenses financial scandal has been shamed in another scandal where he bought an expensive official vehicle outside his entitlement.
Tax payers are footing a MK156 million bill for a latest Toyota Land Cruiser VX V8 for Kapondamgaga which he is using despite knowing that he is not entitled to that range of a vehicle.
Kapondamgaga’s post as Director General of State Residences or Chief of Staff for State residences is equivalent to that of a controlling officer or a Principal Secretary.
The Toyota Land Cruiser VX V8 is, according to government vehicle allocation is reserved for the Vice President, Secretary to the Office of the President and Cabinet (SPC), Speaker of the National Assembly and the Chief Justice.
Kapondamgaga and the rest of the PSs and cabinet ministers are entitled to Toyota Prado VXL vehicles.
“This is impunity at its best. This man knows that he is not entitled to drive this type of a vehicle but he still went ahead to buy a new one anyway. This has cost State House about MK160 million because he added some extras to the vehicle. This is sad when impunity start from people like him,” said our impeccable source at State House.
Kapondamgaga is at the centre of a scandal where State House has been dubiously paying accommodation for unknown people at Crossroads Hotel in Lilongwe. Tax payers have had to part with MK65 million in the deal.
President Lazarus Chakwera who won the June 23 fresh presidential elections promised to clear the corruption rubble in government is yet to act on his best friend Kapondamgaga on the hotel expenses scandal and also on the vehicle abuse.
