Former President Joyce Banda. who is also the founder and leader of the opposition Peoples Party (PP), assured Malawians that she is coming back home this year, without failure.
Banda said this speaking to her supporters through a recorded audio that she shared via the internet.
She however, accused the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) for failing Malawians.
According to Banda, the ruling DPP has mismanaged a lot of government resources, but put the blame on her party as the cause for the country’s economic crisis.
“DPP has stolen public funds from TEVET, Water boards, ESCOM, and other government institutions. Apart from that, some of the DPP members were found with millions of foreign currency in their homes, but nothing has been done to arrest the culprits,” Banda said.
She said she is ready to come back and is not afraid of the ruling DPP.
However, government spokesperson Nicholas Dausi, described Banda’s claim as fake.
He wondered why Banda put herself into self-exile if everything was fine for her.
Banda left the country soon after losing the 2014 general elections to the incumbent President Peter Mutharika.
It was however, reported in the media recently that the former president was pursuing further studies in the US as well as finishing writing a book.
