As the sporting world hits the midweek mark, excitement continues to build across various leagues in Africa and beyond.
In Malawi, the TNM Super League delivered intense action during Week 14. Mafco FC put on a dominant display by beating Songwe United 3-1 away from home. Goals from Auspicious Kadzongola in the 8th minute, China Chirwa in the 66th, and Rodwell Robert in the 83rd gave Mafco a comfortable lead, while Songwe scored through Aloyce Mwamwaya in added time.
Meanwhile, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets suffered a surprise 1-0 defeat to Blue Eagles, with Laurent Banda scoring the decisive goal in the 79th minute to stun the home crowd.
In the NBM Women’s Premiership, competition continued to intensify over the weekend. The match between MK Academy Women and Civil Service Women ended in a goalless draw, showing the defensive discipline of both sides.
Silver Strikers Ladies edged MDF Lioness 2-1 thanks to goals from Ireen Khumalo and Chisomo Banda, overturning an early lead by Eltech Phiri for Lioness.
Mighty Wanderers Queens had a comfortable 2-0 win over Moyale Sisters with strikes from Tawina Kawaga and Shika Mangani, while Ascent Soccer Academy outclassed Topik Academy 6-0 in one of the most dominant performances of the week. Over in Zimbabwe, the Premier Soccer League saw thrilling encounters on Sunday, July 27. CAPS United claimed a 1-0 victory over Highlanders, while Chicken Inn shocked Dynamos with a commanding 3-0 win.
Manica Diamonds and Simba Bhora played out a 1-1 draw, and Triangle United earned a solid 3-0 win over Bikita Minerals.
On Saturday, FC Platinum narrowly beat GreenFuel 1-0, ZPC Kariba thrashed Kwekwe United 3-0, and the matches between MWOS and Herentals, as well as Ngezi Platinum versus TelOne, ended 1-1 and 2-1 respectively.
In the Africa Cup of Nations Women’s tournament continues to deliver breathtaking moments.Nigeria Women overturned a two-goal deficit to defeat Morocco 3-2. Morocco looked set for victory after goals from Ghizlane Chebbak and Sanaâ Mssoudy in the first half.
However, Nigeria came roaring back in the second half with goals from Rinsola Babajide, Jennifer Echegini, and a penalty from Esther Okoronkwo before Ijamilusi added another to seal a memorable win for the Super Falcons.
In European football, the UEFA Women’s Euro Final took center stage on Sunday, July 27, as England and Spain clashed in a gripping encounter. The game ended 1-1 after extra time, leading to a tense penalty shootout in which England triumphed 3-1 to claim the championship.
Elsewhere, St. Mirren continued their strong run in the Scottish League Cup Group D, securing a 2-1 win over Ayr United.
In other club friendlies, Manchester United edged West Ham 2-1 in the Premier League Summer Series, and Belgian giants Anderlecht overwhelmed Westerlo with a 5-2 victory.
However, the week also saw the cancellation of several international friendlies, including Kenya’s matches against Congo and Senegal, and Uganda’s clash with Tanzania.
