LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Former President Joyce Banda has officially announced that she will select Khumbo Kachali as her running mate for the upcoming Tripartite elections scheduled for September 16.

This decision marks a significant political reunion, as Kachali previously served as Banda’s vice president following the death of President Bingu wa Mutharika in 2012.

In a statement to the press, Banda expressed her confidence in Kachali’s capabilities, saying, “Khumbo has proven himself as a dedicated public servant and a leader who understands the challenges our nation faces. Together, we will work towards a better future for all Malawians.”

Kachali, who was dropped by Banda during the 2014 elections in favor of Sosten Gwengwe, has since established his own political party. Despite their past differences, he welcomed the opportunity to partner with Banda once again.

“I am honored to be chosen as her running mate. Our shared vision for Malawi will guide us as we seek to bring about meaningful change,” Kachali stated.

The announcement has generated mixed reactions among political analysts and the public, with some expressing optimism about the potential for a strong alliance, while others recall the complexities of their previous partnership.

As the election date approaches, both Banda and Kachali are expected to campaign vigorously to secure support from voters across the country.
