LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Member of Parliament (MP) for Msinja South constituency, Francis Belekanyama launched a MK3.5milion catholic choir festival trophy.
The finals are expected to take place on June 29, 2023.
Addressing the church members during the Mass service at Kalesi primary ground on Saturday June 17, Belekanyama says the festival trophy aims at promoting rural competition among Chakhandwe and Thenga zones in his area with the participation of 20 choirs who will share the money equally at the end of the festival.
He believes that music brings healing both spiritually and physically in addition of interaction among the choir members.
“I am a Catholic and I believe in the holy communion of the church regardless of being a politician. I believe that political positions is just a privilege which comes and go but church activities are eternal,” said Belekanyama.
On his part, Parish Priest, Father Cornelius Kanyambo commended the lawmaker initiative saying it is one of the examples of strengthen spiritual growth for the community members through music.
Kanyambo says the parish forbids the habit of sharing the trophy money differently as it demotivates members.
He add that for fair results the competition will be managed by committee zones from the 2 registered zones.
Chairperson for the Choirs, Heston Matanda says the festival will bring unity and interaction among the 2 zones.
The launch was spiced up by Chilinde Choir from Capital City who posed as a role model for all the rural choirs.
