RUMPHI (MaraviPost) — Edgy, and bumpy road to Livingstonia, historic and tourist attraction centre in Northern Malawi, has been provided with funding to be improved, Malawi’s Ministry of Transport has said.
“There is money in the next budget to cater for feasibility studies on the road,” said Transport Minister Francis Kasaira, “donors are also being engaged to fund the actual rehabilitation works.”
The 79 kilometre stretch will run from Rumphi Boma through Golodi to Chitimba.
Travelling to Livingstonia has been a tall order for people living in the escarpments. People living there have raised several pleas over the years for the road to be worked on to no avail.
“Travelling to Livingstonia from both sides of Rumphi and Chitimba has always been difficult especially during the rainy season as the road becomes very slipperly,” Ian Boma Mkandawire, a former legislator in the area told ZBS Radio.
