Mzimba, January 16, 2019.  Mzimba magistrate court has sentenced a 52-year-old man to 6 years imprisonment with hard labour for defiling a 13-year-old girl with mental illness.

In an interview with Mana, prosecutor sergeant Lungu said on the 12 of November, 2018, Maliyose Khondowe had carnal knowledge of a girl (name withheld) of Chimombo Jere village in T/A Mzukuzuku.

He added that defilement is a serious offence which is contrary to section 139 of the penal code.

He asked the court to give a stiffer punishment to act as a warning to other would be offenders and reduce defilement cases which are on the rise in the district.
The court sentenced Khondowe to 6 years imprisonment with hard labor.

The convict hails from Khofiman village Traditional Authority Mzukuzuku in the district.
