MWANZA-(MaraviPost)—The Malawi Court in the southern and border district of Mwanza on Wednesday sentenced a 30 year-old man for being found guilty of defiling a 15 year-old girl.
Mwanza Police Public Relations Officer Edwin Kaunda confirmed to Maravi Post the sentencing of Madalitso Bwanali who committed the offense at Tulonkhondo village in the district.
The convict committed the office at the night of November 24, 2014 when he entered the room in which the girl was sleeping and forced her to have sexual intercourse with him.
Kaunda said the victim consented as she was threatened by Bwanali that denial to the sexual advances would lead to her assassination. After the incident Bwanali fled to Mozambique on the same night.
“The girl reported the matter to her aunt who eventually rushed with her niece to Tulonkhondo Police Unit where they were further referred to Mwanza District Hospital where medical examination showed that the girl was really defiled.
“The convict stayed in Mozambique for a year and some months and returned home in March this year, a development which prompted some members of the community to inform the Police officers to arrest him.
“Despite the convict pleading not guilty to the charge of defilement which is contrary to section 138 of the Penal Code, His worship Ran well Mangazi found him guilty and sentenced him to 10 years in jail with hard labor.
Kaunda said that Mangazi during the handing of the judgment said that the convict deserved stiff punishment saying what he did to the young girl will traumatize her for the rest of her life.
Madalitso Bwanali hails from Mganga village in the Traditional Authority (T.A) Kanduku in Mwanza.
