Kaunda told The Maravi Post that the convict who is married to a 39-year-old Stella Kabingu warned the girl and grandmother that they will be dealt with if they reveal the incident to the police.
The police publicist said the victim who happened to be Molesi’s step daughter decided to reveal the ordeal to her mother following severe pains she was experiencing on her vagina especially during urination.
“Stella took the girl to Mwanza Police where they were further referred to Mwanza District Hospital and medical examination revealed that the girl was defiled.
“Victor went into hiding after he heard that the matter has been reported to police. After a few days of investigations, Mwanza police arrested the convict on December 9, 2016 who eventually appeared before court and pleaded not guilty to the charge of defilement contrary to section 138 of the Penal Code.
“The police prosecutor Joshua Chirambo paraded five witnesses who testified against the Victor that later saw His Worship Ranwell Mangazi sentencing to 14 years in jail with hard labour though the convict pleaded for lenience arguing that he committed the offence under the influence of evil spirit”, said Kaunda.
