Malawi electoral body assures of smooth polls amid hired vehicle catches fire

MEC’s hired that was meant to pick polling materials from the constituency center to polling stations caught fire in Limbe, Blantyre

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Chairperson assured the nation of smooth running of much awaited fresh presidential polls slated for Tuesday, June 23, 2020.

The assurance comes hours after the commission’s hired that was meant to pick polling materials from the constituency center to polling stations caught fire in Limbe, Blantyre.

In a press statement issued on Monday signed by d MEC chairperson Chifundo Kachale confirmed the incident.

Kachale revealed that the incident happened near Limbe Cathedral in Blantyre and the van registration Number CA 779 was on its way to Thyolo where it was assigned to pick polling materials from the constituency centre to polling stations there

He also said the truck was empty at the time of the accident and no person was hurt during the accident.

MEC therefore assured stakeholders that polling process will go on smoothly.
