BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has called on regional football committees across the country to ensure responsible and effective use of the financial support they receive from the association.

FAM has recently disbursed funds amounting to K40 million to the regional committees to support football administration and development activities in their respective areas.

Speaking on the matter, FAM Vice President Lameck Zetu Khonje emphasized that the funds are meant to strengthen football structures at the grassroots level.

Khonje explained that the financial support should help regional committees expand football development initiatives in the districts that fall under their administration.

According to him, the funding is not only intended to run competitions but also to enhance the growth of football from the lower levels of the sport.

He stressed that regional bodies play a crucial role in nurturing talent and ensuring that football activities continue to flourish within communities.

The FAM vice president therefore urged the committees to ensure transparency and accountability in the way the money is utilized.

Khonje further noted that proper use of the funds would contribute significantly to the overall development of football in the country.

He also commended the regional committees for the efforts they demonstrated in organizing football competitions during the previous season.

Khonje said the success of last year’s tournaments reflected the commitment and dedication of administrators working in the regions.

However, he encouraged the committees to raise their standards even further as they prepare for upcoming football seasons.

He challenged them to adopt more professional and modern approaches in the management of football activities.

Khonje specifically urged administrators to embrace better planning, organization, and innovative methods in running football competitions.

Looking ahead to the 2026 and 2027 football seasons, FAM expects regional committees to demonstrate improved professionalism and technical expertise in developing the game.
