Malawi First Lady Getrude Mutharika goes into battle for her husband

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)—First Lady of the Republic of Malawi, Getrude Mutharika, has stepped into the campaign spotlight, wooing supporters to rally behind her husband Peter Mutharika in the forthcoming fresh presidential election expected to take place on June 23.

The First lady and wife to United Democratic Front (UDF) president Atupele Muluzi, Angella Muluzi, on Thursday joined DPP-UDF campaign trail in Zomba where DPP top officials led by Muluzi were holding a campaign rally at Naisi trading Center ground in Malosa constituency.

The first lady was on her way from Balaka, her home district.

Meanwhile, President Mutharika, who is also the DPP-UDF alliance torchbearer, is still missing in action two weeks after the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) officially launched campaign for the fresh election.
