BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-As cases of novel coronavirus are on increase in Malawi, Malawi’s Ministry of Health has recruited about 755 health workers.
In a press statement released and signed by Dr. Dan Namalika, Health Ministry Principal Secretary on Sunday, April 19, 2020, the recruitment is response to the Presidential Declaration to recruit 2000 health workers to help in fighting against the pandemic.
The state President made the declaration to recruit extra 2,000 health workers after he announced 10% wage cut to his salary together with all government ministers for three months after declaring a state of emergency following the first 3 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Malawi.
In a press release, the Ministry together with Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development in collaboration with Health Service Commission and Local Government Service Commission has disclosed that about 755 health workers so far have been recruited ranging from senior medical officers to hospital attendants.
The ministry has also revealed that it will continue recruiting health workers and interviews will be carried out in all District Councils by Health Service Commission and Local Government Service Commission from April 22, 2020.
Candidates in possession of relevant health qualifications for various clinical posts have been encouraged to attend the interviews at their respective District Councils and those recruited by Government and Christian Health Association of Malawi (CHAM) have been asked not to attend the interviews.
As of April 18, 2020, Malawi had 17 active cases of Covid-19 with two deaths.
